Privacy Policy

Last updated 14 August 2026

Pickd helps you decide what to watch. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It covers the Pickd mobile app and this website.

Pickd is operated by Pickd. If you have a question about anything here, email privacy@trypickd.app.

What we collect

If you join the waitlist

We store your email address, the date you signed up, and a source label recording which page you came from. We use it once — to email you when your beta invitation is ready — and we do not add you to a marketing list.

We also store a one-way hash of your IP address, salted so it cannot be reversed into an address. It exists only to stop automated sign-up floods, is never used to identify or profile you, and is deleted along with the rest of the row. We do not store the address itself.

If you create an account

Collected automatically

We do not collect your contacts, photos, precise location, or your viewing activity from any streaming service. We have no access to your Netflix, Hulu, Max, Disney+, Prime Video, Apple TV+, Paramount+ or Peacock accounts.

Why we're allowed to use it

We process your data to provide a service you asked for (making recommendations), on the basis of your consent (joining the waitlist), and for our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and secure (crash reports). Where consent is the basis, you can withdraw it at any time.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising. We use a small number of processors that handle data on our behalf:

Two other companies receive data directly from your device rather than from us. They are not processors — we send them nothing — but using the app means your device connects to them:

Other people in a group session see your display name and, once everyone has answered, the answers you gave — that is how Pickd finds the overlap. A session is reachable only through its four-character code, which expires after fifteen minutes.

We may disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

Where content data comes from

Film and television metadata, including artwork and ratings, comes from TMDB. Streaming availability comes from JustWatch. Pickd is not endorsed or certified by either, and is not affiliated with any streaming service.

How long we keep it

Deleting your data

You can delete your account from inside the app, under Profile. Deletion removes your profile, taste answers, seen titles, subscriptions and session history. It takes effect immediately and cannot be undone.

To be removed from the waitlist, or to request a copy of your data, email privacy@trypickd.app and we'll action it within 30 days.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to a data protection authority. If you're in the EEA or UK, these rights come from the GDPR. If you're in California, the CCPA gives you comparable rights, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We honour these requests regardless of where you live.

Cookies

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising trackers. The waitlist form sends your email address to our database and nothing else.

Children

Pickd is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. The kids profile is a content filter configured by an adult account holder; it does not create a separate account for a child. Setting one up asks for a nickname rather than the child's real name, and stores only that nickname, an age range, and the viewing preferences chosen during setup. If you believe a child has given us data, email privacy@trypickd.app and we'll delete it.

International transfers

Our providers may process data in the United States and elsewhere. Where data leaves the EEA or UK, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Database access is governed by row-level security, so your account data is reachable only by you. No system is perfectly secure, but we'll tell you promptly if a breach affects your data.

Changes

If we make a material change we'll update the date at the top of this page, and — if you have an account — tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
